Day 3

Teams 2, 3, and 4 were split/mixed up into new teams, where each team was assigned something different.

One of the teams went to a house in a neighborhood very close to the beach and put rocks in their front yard (though it may seem like light work, it was anything but that...)

Another team moved bricks off of a patio and put them onto a pickup truck. They later joined the third group of people...

That third group was assigned to a house close to our meeting point, where they raked sand and stones that had been moved into small piles due to the storm. The sand needed to be leveled, and there was still debris around the perimeter of the house and on the yard. So they cleaned up that yard, and when they finished they moved on to a nearby fence where they pulled weeds and vines that had been growing there for a long time. The group then split off into 2 groups where one set of people continued to weed, and the other group went nearby to rake pine needles out from under pine trees. Unfortunately, it was not something we were expecting to have to do, but it was something that needed to be done.

The fourth group went to help clean up the American Legion Post. It is still not open, but they are getting close to re-opening. We met Eddie (85 years old) and Billy (74 years old) who are the two gentleman coordinating the efforts to rebuild their Post. They worked side by side with us and we were able to make progress by clearing three rooms that they will be able to put to use immediately. We were all touched by the community that existed around the Post and how important the Post was to the local community. The school next door needs the space, the local church uses their space and a local Boy Scout Troop utilizes their facilities weekly. They all work together and it is a great example of the importance of community and we were pleased to be able to get them close to again becoming a strong community.

Once we came back to the church, we all took a much needed shower, and ate our stir-fry made by Lia, Fiona, Jack, Nick, Nelia, and Ed. Once we finished dinner, we went out for Dairy Queen. When we came back, we hung out for a bit and then spent about an hour and a half on group devotion.
